Rehearsal & Performance Policies
UIYB Rehearsal and Performance Guidlines
(Updated Spring 2015)
The annual spring concert performing opportunity is open to dancers in Pre-ballet, Tap/Jazz, and levels 1-5 who maintain regular attendance in their technique class. The spring concert is generally held the second weekend of May, but more specifically follows the UI Academic Calendar to fall at the end of Finals Week.
All UIYB rehearsals are separate from technique class. Class levels Preballet, 1, 2, 3 and Tap/Jazz begin rehearsal approximately eight weeks from concert date. Level 4/5 (often referred to as the UIYB Ensemble) rehearses for the entire academic year.
To qualify for performing a student must be in regular attendance in their respective technique classes attending the recommended number of classes per week (below). In addition, the student must not miss too many rehearsals (no more than 1 for half-semester rehearsals periods, or 2 for full-semester rehearsals), must attend all scheduled rehearsals during tech week, and be able to take part in all performances. If unforeseen circumstances arise that prevent a student from keeping a rehearsal or performance commitment, contact the UIYB office immediately.

Male dancers must provide their own white or black tights and white or black shoes (according to the needs of the choreographer).
Dancers should attend all rehearsals and performances wearing their regular dancewear.
