Biography

Todd Rhoades has taught master classes in dance, pilates, yoga, alignment-based movement and injury prevention.  In the world of dance, he has been found on faculty at Ballet Austin Academy (Summer Intensive/Academic Year), Inaside Jazz Dance (Summer Intensive), Inaside Jazz Dance Guest Teacher Company Class, Thodos Dance Chicago Guest Teacher Company Class, Chicago Ballet Arts, Chicago School of the Arts.  For movement-based, pilates and yoga, Todd has taught across the country in spas, private studios, wellness centers, rehab centers and fitness centers.  He was in charge of the yoga and tai chi program at Galter LifeCenter and Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he developed programs for oncology and cardiac rehabilitation.  Todd was also the private Pilates and yoga instructor, assisting in rehabilitation, for Cirque du Soleil’s cast of Luzia, while they were stationed in Chicago.

 

As a choreographer, Todd has created new works for Inaside Jazz Dance Chicago, Nomi Dance, Project Bound and Dance in the Parks. He has choreographed for Paramount Theatre, Lifeline Theatre, Little Theater on the Square, Music Theater Works, DePaul University, North Park University, Michigan State University, The Savoyaires, Chicago Folks Operetta, Chicago Opera Theater, joint productions with New Orleans Ballet/New Orleans Opera as well as New York State Ballet/Finger Lakes Opera. Awards include the 2015 Choreography Award - Inside Dance Chicago, Participant of Chicago DirectorsLab 2018 and Chicago’s Year in Theater Scriptwriter’s Development Grant Recipient 2019. 

Todd, currently an MFA Dance candidate, received his BFA in Dance from Point Park University. His additional training came from Shenandoah Conservatory, Boston Ballet School, Joffrey Ballet School, and The Taylor School.  He was a guest dancer with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and then became a company member with Ballet Austin where he danced principal roles by Balanchine, Stephen Mills, David Nixon, David Parsons and Septime Weber. In Chicago, Todd danced for Luna Negra Dance Theater, The Seldoms, Danszloop Chicago, Ron de Jesus Dance, Chicago Opera Theater and Lyric Opera of Chicago, where he danced in over a dozen productions. He has been seen onstage at the Drury Lane Oakbrook, Goodman Theater, Marriott Theater, Paramount Theater, the MUNY in St. Louis and toured with Alan Thicke in The Toy Shoppe, a Christmas musical written by Kenny Rogers.
