Dana Powers-Klooster is from Glen Cove, New York where she trained in dance from a young age. She received her MFA in Dance from the University of Iowa in 2014, where she was honored to be the recipient of the Iowa Arts Fellowship, and her BA in Dance and Spanish Areas Studies from Kenyon College in 2006, cum laude. Dana lived in New York City from 2007-2011 where she had the pleasure of performing works by Stephanie Liapis, Lindsey Dietz Marchant, Oliver Steele, Jennifer Kain, Elizabeth Wilkinson, and Deb Silver. During her graduate studies at the University of Iowa, Dana was able to both create her own choreographic work in addition to performing work by faculty members Charlotte Adams and Alan Sener, as well as by graduate students Michael Medcalf, Jennifer Harge, Rebecca Chun, Kevin Schroder, Jessica Anthony, and Alex Bush.
Dana has taught both ballet and modern dance technique for a wide range of ages and levels. She taught ballet at the Steamboat Ballet School of Dance in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, as well as at Manhattan Beach Art and Dance School in Brooklyn, New York. Throughout her graduate studies Dana was fortunate to have had ample opportunity to teach both ballet and modern dance at the University of Iowa. Currently, she teaches ballet and modern dance for the Youth Ballet, serves as a guest instructor for the ballet program in the University’s Dance Department, and continues to perform and choreograph her own work.
