Rehearsal & Performance Guidelines

UIYB Rehearsal and Performance Guidlines

Two performing opportunities per year are available for qualifying students. The Winter Concert is open to ballet dancers in levels 1a – 5 who maintain regular attendance in their technique classes. Generally this concert is held the third weekend of December. The Spring concert performing opportunity is open to the pre ballet levels and dancers studying other dance forms in addition to the ballet students. The Spring concert is generally held the second weekend of May.

All UIYB rehearsals are separate from technique class. Ballet levels 1-2 begin rehearsal eight weeks from concert date. Levels 4/5 and Pointe students begin rehearsals at the beginning of each term. Instructors ultimately determine the number of rehearsals needed for their piece.

To qualify for performing the student must be in regular attendance in their respective technique classes attending the recommended number of classes per week. In addition the student must not miss more than two rehearsals, must attend all scheduled rehearsals during tech week, and be able to take part in all performances. If unforeseen circumstances arise that prevent a student from keeping a rehearsal or performance commitment, the Artistic Coordinator and the UIYB office should be informed immediately.

Costumes are provided by UIYB, however dancers are responsible for the costumes while they are wearing them. Tights and shoes: Female dancers must provide their own pink tights, no seams, and shoes. Male dancers must provide their own white or black tights and white or black shoes.

Dancers should attend all rehearsal and performances wearing their regular dancewear.

Students should not sit in costumes or eat or drink (even water) while in a costumes.
