Iowa native Kristin Marrs joined the UIYB faculty in 2013. She teaches ballet level 4/5 and choreographs for the UIYB Performance Ensemble.

Marrs has performed classical and contemporary roles as a company member of Columbus Dance Theatre, Arova Contemporary Ballet, Northern Ballet Theatre, Paradise Ballet Theatre, Ballet Quad Cities, Opera Columbus, and Images of Dance. She has worked with numerous choreographers, including Kennet Oberly, Tim Veach, Stella Kane, Kristina Isabelle, Maria Glimscher, Alun Jones, Kim Robards, Lynn Bowman, Deanna Carter, Simone Ferro, Johanne Jakhelln, Penny Askew, and Margaret Mead-Finizio, and has also performed ballets of Petipa, Balanchine, and Frederick Ashton. She continues to perform as a freelance solo artist.

Marrs trained at SUNY Purchase and London Studio Centre, and she holds an MFA in Dance from the University of Iowa. Currently a Lecturer in the Iowa Dance Department, she teaches ballet, pointe, ballet pedagogy, and Alexander Technique to undergraduate and graduate dancers. She has also taught ballet technique at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, Columbus Dance Theatre Intensive Training Program, and as a guest artist at Ohio Wesleyan University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Shenyang Conservatory of Music in Shenyang, China. She is a certified instructor of vinyasa and yin yoga and an Alexander Technique teacher trainee, holding an associate membership with the American Society for the Alexander Technique. Her research and teaching interests include the integration of healthy somatic practices with the precision of ballet technique. She presented her paper "From Delsarte to Alexander: Somatics and the Evolving Identity of Contemporary Ballet" at Johns Hopkins for the Society of Dance History Scholars Special Topics Conference in spring 2015.

Marrs’ choreography has been performed at concert and site-specific venues around the United States. She is passionate about collaborating with live musicians; in 2013, her ballet "A Poet’s Love" featured baritone Bryce Weber and pianist Linyu Wang in live performance of Schumann’s "Dichterliebe." Her choreography for the UIYB Performance Ensemble includes "Sinfonia for Spring" (2014) and "Alice in Wonderland" (2015), a full length ballet co-directed with Eleanor Goudie-Averill and developed in collaboration with the entire UIYB faculty.
