Biography

Maddie is from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and began dancing at the age of 5 after a recreation class taught at a Girl Scouts event. Maddie studied ballet, jazz, and lyrical at the age of 5 and started competing at the age of 8. The studios she studied at were DanceNation, Dance Academy of Cedar Rapids, and Above the Barre Dance Studio. Over the years Maddie began to study tap, contemporary, hip hop, modern, improvisation, and musical theatre. Maddie was also on her varsity dance team all through high school and became captain her senior year. Through competitive dance, Maddie attended many competitions, intensives, and workshops, and assisted other classes. Maddie spent a week at Cornell College during her freshman year at the Cornell College Summer Dance Institute under the direction of Alvon Reed where she first became familiar with the concert dance scene. She found more of a love for modern and contemporary during this week. 

Maddie is a third-year student at the University of Iowa who just got accepted to pursue the BFA in Dance while continuing the Pre-Physical Therapy and Dance Pedagogy and Instruction Tracks. In the department, Maddie studies dance theory, ballet, modern, contemporary, improvisation, and choreography. Maddie was a part of the University of Iowa Dance Company which was directed by Melinda Jean Myers and Todd Rhoades. Maddie has had the pleasure of working with many faculty and graduate students including Kieron Dwayne Sargeant, Brady Van Patten, Sean Thomas Boyt, and Tony Orrico. Maddie also had the pleasure of working with Dance Gala Guest Artist Aaron Samuel Davis on his piece A Tiny Swallow this past season. 

As an assistant, Maddie wants to share her passion and excitement for movement with all who are interested.
