Biography

Martha Hamilton is pursuing a major in Elementary Education. She is the third oldest of the seven children in her family, and she has enjoyed growing up dancing with her four sisters. She has loved playing piano throughout her life, especially through improvisation. She started her ballet journey with the University of Iowa Youth Ballet (UIYB) as a young dancer and is thrilled to be teaching the next generation of students. Having talented pianists’ play for her ballet classes growing up made a big impression on Martha and she is excited to help bring live music to the studio environment. Martha is very excited to be able to continue her passion for ballet and piano while pursuing her love for teaching.

As an Iowa City native, Martha began her studies at the UIYB at age 4. She trained with City Ballet of Iowa and Edith Ballet Academy, where she continued to learn and enjoy classical ballet. Martha underwent two American Ballet Theater (ABT) examinations as a dancer and appreciates the structure of this curriculum. Martha then returned to continue her training with the UIYB. Martha began her studies in piano at the Preucil School of Music under the direction of Barb Michaelson at age 7. Martha is thrilled to continue her love of ballet as a teacher and accompanist!
